Golf Insight for Business & Life

Here’s your shot of weekly inspiration:

“I never hit a shot, not even in practice, without having a very sharp, in-focus picture of it in my head. First I see the ball where I want it to finish, nice and white and sitting up high on the bright green grass. Then the scene quickly changes, and I see the ball going there: its path, trajectory, and shape, even its behavior on landing. Then there is a sort of fade-out, and the next scene shows me making the kind of swing that will turn the previous images into reality.”

– Jack Nicklaus (Probably the greatest golfer ever)

As many of you will know, I am a massive believer in the power of your mind. This is the reason why I spend time educating clients on the basics of how to use your mind for better results. I will make a prediction here. Over the next 5 to 10 years, we will see lots more focus on the training of people’s mental skills for improved results in business and life. If your mind is right, and you know how to use it to improve performance, it’s a no brainer.  Plus all of the research is now unarguable.

What Jack Nicklaus shows us is part of the structure he uses to create the result he wants.

1. See the end result in full colour, as if it’s already happened.

2. Working backwards from that, visualise scenes in detail.

3. Imagine yourself with the appropriate behaviour now, that lines with with all of the above.

4. Drop it all, mentally, and take the shot.  (I’ve added this bit).
What’s fantastic is when someone actually practices this simple structure above. But in my experience, about 10% of those who know it, actually do it. I worked with a sales rep last year and he created a daily routine of something like the above.  His sales jumped up 50% within a month and have stayed there.  He’s consistently in the top 10% of his team.

The key factors?

1. The structure of what to do

2. The hunger to do it.  (This is where most fall down).

If you want better results in any area of your life or business, try the above structure for a month.  See what happens. If someone like Jack Nicklaus endorses it, to me that’s worth something.

Food for thought…

Have a great week,

Shane

ps – If you didn’t get a chance to listen to the interview audio in last week’s email I strongly suggest you make some time for it. It’s with Keelan Cunningham, an entrepreneur from Dublin and he gives some insight into how he turned his business around, from a €250k loss to a €250k profit in just 12 months.

You can also download the interview to your ipod to listen to it on the go.
